All Cactus are succulents! Not all succulents are cactus!
Get it? To be or not to be, a Cactus, that is?

Characteristics of a Cactus

Cactus, some of which are not particularly beautiful, have some of the most beautiful and unusual flowers. Cactus have Spines and they hurt just like thorns but they are not thorns. Most cactus do not have leaves. Cacti have Areoles, which Encarta defines as: pit on the surface of a cactus: a depression on the surface of a cactus that the spines, hairs, or flowers grow from. Cacti are the only plants with this trait. Stunning, breathtaking and astonishing are adjectives describing Cacti flowers. They are the most unique and dazzling of any plant family. This is my opinion, not scientific fact. In sharp contrast, no pun intended, non cactaceae Succulents are softer and easier to touch, therefore easier to care for.
