Cotyledon tomentosa ssp. ladismithiensis
Cotyledon tomentosa ssp. ladismithiensis is a rare native of the Cape Province of South Africa. This area falls within the Cape Floristic Region, which is home to the greatest non-tropical concentration of plant species in the world. Almost 70% of plant species in the Cape Floristic Region, including Cotyledon tomentosa ssp. ladismithiensis, are endemic, meaning that they grow no where else in the world. In an effort to conserve the threatened flora of the Cape Province, the South African government has launched a massive program to remove invasive plants in order to encourage the regeneration of native vegetation.
